Adjust playgrounds for all children
We believe every child deserves the opportunity to play, learn, and grow in an inclusive environment, free from barriers and discrimination. Unfortunately, in Arusha and many parts of Tanzania, playgrounds are limited, and there are no public accessible playgrounds.
At IBES, we are proud to be among the few institutions in the area with a playground that has the potential to be an inclusive space for all children. Now, we want to go further by ensuring that our playground is fully accessible to children with disabilities. Our goal is to create a space where every child, regardless of their physical abilities, can play together and enjoy equal opportunities for fun and development.

Why is this important?
For kids with disabilities, the lack of accessible play spaces means missing out—not just on fun but also on opportunities to grow, make friends, and feel included. Play is such an important part of childhood, helping kids build confidence, social skills, and physical strength.
Our vision for an inclusive playground
Here’s what we’re planning to make this vision a reality:
- Accessible Pathways: Smooth, wide paths that allow easy movement for children using wheelchairs.
- Inclusive Equipment: Swings with adaptive seating, wheelchair-friendly play structures, and games that everyone can enjoy together (like shown in the pictures).

The cost of making it happen
We’re teaming up with Letera Workshop, experts in designing accessible playgrounds, to ensure we get this right. The project will involve:
- Building accessible pathways
- Installing inclusive equipment
- Adding safety features and making necessary modifications
